Hi there. I’m Dove. I am the most recent rescue through AVHR. My owner decided she needed more than a trail horse – I’m so sad and am looking for my forever home. Can you believe that I’m 21 years old?!! I sure don’t feel like it and I sure don’t act like it as I’m one spunky, but SUPER sweet girl. I was a successful ranch horse prior to my last owner and for the last three years I’ve just been out to pasture. I’m currently living at Moon Run Ranch in Old Snowmass and Holly McLain is riding me daily and thinks I would make someone an absolutely great light-trail companion. Because I’m so forward on the trail, I definitely require an experienced rider. Ask for more info and AVHR will put in touch with Holly!

Hi, I’m Tera. I’m the baby on the left in the picture… I was born this summer at my mom’s incredible foster ranch in Missouri Heights (Carbondale). I’m Storm’s amazing baby girl from early summer! Am I gorgeous or what?! AVHR says my mom is 3/4 Quarter Horse and 1/4 Percheron and my dad, Raleigh, is supposedly a big, beautiful, dapple grey stallion who is an incredible jumper (as he would jump the tall fences in the pastures regularly) – he’s a 1/2 Percheron, 1/4 Thoroughbred, 1/4 Shire. My mom is grey and my dad is grey so I might likely be grey too? My mom is the most mello of ladies you’ve ever met and her ‘09 foal was as mello as she is (he was adopted by Seth in Old Snowmass)! Hopefully I’ll get the athleticism with the laid back personality?! I would make an amazing 3-day eventer or dressage horse maybe? Please consider giving me a great home with a great job - once I’m weaned (likely mid-November, 2010).

Hi, I’m Storm – everyone at AVHR calls me Stormy! I’m an eight year old, Quarter Horse (with some Percheron) cross, but I’m not very big. I was rescued last fall along with my 2009 foal – he was adopted by Seth of Old Snowmass (I’m so glad he has such a wonderful home!). I might be the most mellow girl you’ve ever met. I’m as sweet as the day is long and truly deserve a forever home with someone to love and care for me and shower me with affection. Everyone at AVHR doesn’t think it would take long to get me undersaddle as I have a heart of gold and with my exceptionally quiet disposition, it shouldn’t be too hard! I’m totally approachable in the pasture and thoroughly enjoy long rubs on my neck… This summer I had a filly, her name is Tera (she’s available for adoption too). I am looking for my forever home – might it be you?!

Hello there. I’m Grace. I’m a 20 year old (very well bred), registered Quarter Horse mare who until recently had spent ever year of my life having babies as a broodmare for a horse breeder in ND. Because of the economy, he was foreced to send me to the slaughterhouse, but AVHR felt I deserved a second chance at life in retirement. When I arrived in Colorado, AVHR was told I was pregnant – I wasn’t and we were all so glad about that! Little is known about my past, but it’s obvious in my face that the years haven’t been easy on me; my dream adopter would want to just love on me and admire me in the pasture. I can be a bit hard to catch as I’m just so leery of the initial touch, but once you have me, you can love on me as much as you want! Jean is my best friend and we would love to stay together if someone might find it in their heart to adopt both of us.

Hi. I’m Dusty – I am a filly with a heart of gold who can take you as far as you might like to go in any discipline you might choose. My mom is Frosty Casino who was one of the pregnant mares who came to AVHR last fall from a Quarter Horse rancher out of Alberta, Canada. Am I cute as the day is long or what? Once you bring me home and make me your own, I am eligible for Quarter Horse registration too. I have a curious and kind eye and am genuinely interested in people! My mom is built more like a Thoroughbred than a Quarter Horse (though she is a registered QH!); she is tall, lean with an incredibly athletic build. Please consider making room in your barn for me - I have incredible potential to be your dream horse!

Frosty Casino

I’m Frosty Casino. I’m a gorgeous, tall and lean – yet leery – eight year old, registered Quarter Horse. To be honest, I simply don’t know to trust people. I just had a beautiful baby named Dusty this spring. Everyone at AVHR thinks I’ve had little (if any) handling or training (and if I did it, it was likely not positive). I’ve made some progress showing interest in calm and gentle people. I’m the perfect example of a rescue horse that not many people would believe in, but I can tell you, someday I’m going to be someone’s special, prized horse! I’m gorgeous, athletic and have incredible potential should the right person invest their time, love and patience. AVHR has a great natural horsemanship trainer who is willing to help me realize my full potential. Just because my previous owner didn’t invest any love or time into me doesn’t mean that I don’t deserve a chance at a great new life!

I came to AVHR from a desperate Quarter Horse breeder in ND who couldn’t stand the thought of sending me (or my best friend Grace) to the slaughterhouse, so he desperately enlisted AVHR’s help in finding me a loving home. I am a very well-bred, registered Quarter Horse mare who has spent my entire life having babies year-after-year. I am a bit timid with people, but once you catch me, I’ll stand and let you love on me for hours. Hello, I’m Cruiser. Am I a handsome boy or what? I am a nine year old, big, non-registered Quarter Horse gelding. I’m a super friendly guy and such a sight to behold out in the pasture. I am broke to ride as I’ve been ridden a couple of times now since I’ve been in Colorado. Supposedly I was an awesome ranch horse –roping cattle, working cattle, etc. I’m on the list for professional evaluation; if you are interested, I’m sure they would try to get that done sooner than later. Hi there, I’m Jersey. I’m a 6 year old Paint/Appaloosa/QH cross who is just destined to be the perfect partner for someone special – everyone at AVHR brags that they think I would make an amazing kids horse with patient and consistent training. I recently had a minor injury to one of my hooves (I’m sound but still healing) and they say it’s the best thing that could have happened to me as I just love Heidi now – she even climbs underneath me to treat me and all around my legs and I am a perfect gentleman. I was headed to the auction house with the killer buyers when AVHR stepped in and rescued me. I am a gentle soul with a kind eye and truly desire a family or a person of my own someday. Hello everyone, I’m Charlie. Am I cute as the dickens or what? I was just born this June here in Colorado – my mom is Honey, one of the AVHR’s rescued pregnant mares from last fall. My mom, Honey, is a ¾ Shire and ¼ Quarter Horse and my dad, Ramos, is a big, beautiful black and white Shire/Paint cross. With the size of my dad, I should be a pretty big boy when I’m all grown up. I have a curious and gentle personality; because AVHR had so many baby horses this season, I haven’t had much experience with people yet, but I’m always super excited to see visitors in my pasture and I’ll gladly come up and sniff your fingers! I would make an incredible carriage horse someday or a light-trail partner. Do you have the perfect home for me? If so, I’m willing once I’m weaned – around mid-November 2010!
